For all of the previous negative connotations I have had about the “Deep State” over the years, I am discovering daily in the Age of Trump the level of its corruption is far worse than anything I have witnessed in nearly three decades of reporting.
And it just keeps getting worse.
I’ve seen political corruption before, of course, as have most Americans, but never before now have I witnessed corruption in federal departments and agencies that, by and large, have never been overtly politicized. That said, if Barack Obama has a legacy beyond what he accomplished legislatively, it’s his destruction of the FBI’s reputation as an unbiased law enforcement entity and the Department of Justice’s credibility.
In recent days we learned that a number of officials within the FBI and the DoJ are nothing more than political operatives for Democrats, having deep-rooted biases against Republican lawmakers and officials and especially “the outsider,” President Donald J. Trump. Knowing that helps explain why in the face of overwhelming evidence she committed crimes, Hillary Clinton gets away with everything while Trump and his people, devoid of any evidence, are investigated out the wah-zoo.
Last week, for instance, we discovered that a high-ranking Justice Department official, Bruce Ohr, was demoted amid an ongoing investigation into his earlier contacts with Fusion GPS, the Washington, D.C.-based opposition research firm responsible for the bogus, unsubstantiated “Trump dossier” — a document that was paid for by Clinton and the DNC, by the way. (Related: Are Democrats behind the dubious Trump dossier that has triggered so many ‘Russia’ investigations?)
Fox News reported exclusively:
Initially senior department officials could not provide the reason for Ohr’s demotion, but Fox News has learned that evidence collected by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., indicates that Ohr met during the 2016 campaign with Christopher Steele, the former British spy who authored the “dossier.”
Shortly after the election, Ohr met with Glenn Simpson, founder of Fusion; by that time, according to published reports, the bogus document had made it into the hands of the FBI — which Republicans believe was then used to justify obtaining a FISA court warrant to put Team Trump under surveillance.
Now we learn that Ohr’s wife, Nellie, worked for Fusion last year during the campaign. And again, that period of time is when Fusion was working on behalf of the Clinton campaign to create a phony “intelligence” document.
So she not only worked for Fusion last year when the Clinton-financed document was created, she worked there while her husband, the high-ranking Justice Department official, met with Fusion GPS officials.
Again, we know this thanks to the intrepid reporting (and verification) of Fox News:
Contacted by Fox News, investigators for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) confirmed that Nellie H. Ohr, wife of the demoted official, Bruce G. Ohr, worked for the opposition research firm last year. The precise nature of Mrs. Ohr’s duties – including whether she worked on the dossier – remains unclear but a review of her published works available online reveals Mrs. Ohr has written extensively on Russia-related subjects. HPSCI staff confirmed to Fox News that she was paid by Fusion GPS through the summer and fall of 2016.”
Anyone who seriously doubts these two Justice Department figures are nothing more than political hacks for the Democratic Party isn’t being fair or serious.
As I said at the beginning, I’ve never seen such pervasive, institutionalized corruption in government agencies and departments where it not only shouldn’t exist, but can’t exist if we’re to have a viable, functioning republic. Because if Attorney General Jeff Sessions and President Trump don’t clean this stinking, nasty house, we’ll lose what’s left of our country.
This kind of corruption at the highest levels is a democracy killer.
